Do you not yet understand?

There are times I anticipate a specific solution to a problem, and I'm sorely disappointed when my expectations are not met... Take the time our finances were in dire straits: I just knew a good tax return would get us back on track, and I remember feeling deflated when we left the accountant's office. I had closed my heart, my eyes and ears to God's faithfulness. I had chosen to rely on my own solutions, taking my focus off God, and forgetting that He had not failed me yet.
Today's Scripture passage resonates with me:
Do you not yet understand or comprehend?
Are your hearts hardened?
Do you have eyes and not see, ears and not hear? (Mk 8:17-18)
I have witnessed all the good God has accomplished over and over in my life. I've been the blessed recipient of His providential care, of His great mercy; I've been overwhelmed by His abiding love for me and my family, yet I still don't see and hear and comprehend...
At the first sign of trials, I forget! I allow the leaven of doubt, of fear, of lack, of discontent to grow and I focus on the problem, not the One "who is able to accomplish far more than all we ask or imagine" (Eph 3:20). Oh, me of little faith!
May we trust God with solutions to our problems and needs. May we ask Him for the grace to open our hearts, that we may understand and see and hear. May we bring our little faith, our little gifts to God to multiply them, that He may use us to share His love with others.
